Political Games - Where the fuck’s the reset button?

There were many, many victories this week, but first I want to acknowledge Casey Roncaglione for running one hell of a campaign and garnering 43% of the vote despite being grossly outmatched in terms of funding, incumbency, and partisanship. Hopefully, this isn’t the last we’ve seen of him.

Congratulations to Congressmen-elect Joe Sestak (D-PA) and Patrick Murphy (D-PA) for winning the 7th and 8th congressional districts against their incumbent opponents. Even bigger congrats to Brian Lentz (D) for upsetting the incumbent in PA’s 161st legislative district. And congratulations to Senator-elect Bob Casey, Jr. (D-PA) for defeating the third-ranking Republican in the senate. I look forward to being the thorn in your left sides for many years to come.

Further congrats to the 30 or so Democratic challengers who picked up formerly-GOP held House seats, and even larger congratulations to the 6 Democrats who picked up formerly-GOP held Senate seats. Congrats to Madame Speaker-elect Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and soon-to-be Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV). Congrats to the 6 Democrats who won successful bids to become Governor of formerly-GOP led states.

Still a few items still going on. Unless Allen (R) concedes, there will be a recount in Virginia to make sure Webb (D) did in fact win. Under state law, it’s Allen’s right to have a recount, so it’s up to him. We can wait. There are a few more close house races where either not all the counting is done or the person currently losing has refused to concede. We’ll see how those play out over the next couple days. And, lastly, Louisiana’s unique election procedure, where the general election is open and no candidate getting 50% of the vote necessitates a runoff between the two highest vote-getters, means their 2nd district will have a run-off featuring incumbent sleazeball Representative William Jefferson (D) and challenging reformist current state representative Karen Carter (D). The activist Democrats (for example, at Daily Kos) are supporting Carter. This is what needs to be done to corrupt politicos on both sides of the aisle. Hopefully my GOP friends thrust into the minority will find a new love of ethics and reform, as well as challenge corrupt GOP officials through primaries. Make sure we do the same thing, alright?

Let’s hope the Dems’ 100 Hour Plan goes through as promised. At least we have a narrow timeframe to know if they live up to their word.
