June 28th, 2006 by Steve

I saw this video a while ago, back in the early months of the year. I forgot to post it. I stumbled across it today. Take a look. Take a listen.

Some Good News

June 8th, 2006 by Steve

U.S. troops caught killed Zarqawi. I don’t think it’ll make that much of a difference, at this point… but you never know, and hopefully I’m wrong.

EDIT: Sorry for the confusion. I presumed got = captured, but that’s what I get for assuming.

Wherein Reality Mimics Satire

June 2nd, 2006 by Steve

As a follow up to my previous post, I had been working on collecting more “conservative” rock songs as a satire. I’d gotten about 10, but I had to stop when I read this. The guy who wrote the first 50 decided to write up some more. Amanda has some excerpts, and I might maybe in the future go through all of them as I did before… but her first excerpt knocked me out of my chair: it was one of the songs I’d been considering for my satire!!!

“Date Rape,” by Sublime. Many liberals probably think this song blames the victim; conservatives will see it offering a bit of common sense: “The moral of the date rape story / It does not pay to be drunk and horny.”

Actually, I LOVE this song. It doesn’t blame the victim, as anyone who can understand context can understand. Here are the actual lines.

The next day she went to her drawer, look up her local attorney at law,
went to the phone and filed the police report and then she took the guy’s ass to court.
Well, the day he stood in front of the judge he screamed, “She lies that little slut!”
The judge knew that he was full of shit and he gave him 25 years

[snip]

The moral of the date rape story
It does not pay to be drunk and horny.
But that’s the way it had to be.
They locked him up and threw away the key.
Well, I can’t take pity on men of his kind
Even though he now takes it in the behind

Clearly, the “It does not pay to be drunk and horny” line is about HIM, not HER. God, you fucking dumbass…
