Responsible Debate?

January 11th, 2006 by Steve

Yet again, our President is accusing me, essentially, of being a traitor who is “giving comfort to our adversaries”. He warns that we need to have a “responsible debate” about Iraq, without endangering “Our Troops” (the phrase is apparently a registered trademark of the Republican party). I guess “responsible debate” means calling your political opponents cowards, traitors, and terrorists; what it doesn’t mean, apparently, is criticizing a policy responsible for the death of over 2000 American troops, hundreds of foreign troops, and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civillians. That’s what it means to our president, anyway. I think that’s bullshit, and that the administration has it backwards. You’d think they would actually be able to defend their policy [not enough troops, no body armor, no rebuilding strategy, no exit strategy] without accusing the critics of treason.

But hey, what do I know? I shouldn’t criticize people who obviously have forgotten more about the subject than I will ever know.
