How to write a rejection letter to colleges

April 26th, 2005 by Steve

Haha! From my buddy Raijin over at B-net:

“Thanks for the acceptance, but you didn’t offer me a sufficiently large bribe aid package to allow my attendance. Please take a flying leap take a flying leap heart in the fact that your university totally sucks has a very strong record in enrolling assholes academia, and I look forward to seeing you take a flying leap the opportunity to visit your campus in the future when hell freezes completely solid.

Brutally Sincerely,
[insert fake name here]”

Belated 2 Years

April 26th, 2005 by Steve

I know, it was March… but it deserves to be recognized.

It’s been 2 years since the U.S. invaded and occupied the country of Iraq on false pretenses. Since then, somewhere between 20000 and 200000 Iraqi civillians have been killed, as well as thousands of coalition troops/contractors/etc. Eric Blumrich has an animation commemorating the anniversary.

It’s graphic. I almost threw up. And I cried.

I’m sorry.

Douschebag, Part 2

April 25th, 2005 by Steve

While we’re on the Top 10 Idiot’s List, let’s take a look at everyone’s favorite: Rush Limbaugh. Rush recently exploded into an on-air rant about Al Gore’s new TV channel which will “reflect the view of young people”. During his rant, Rush said that the “view of young people” is just “blow jobs”; yep, he actually said that. Besides the fact that it pisses me off (and any other young person), the FCC is going to be looking into it. Why? Because it violates new rules regarding indecency on the radio……. rules which were pushed by conservative lobbying groups and conservative politicians. What was Rush’s response?

My reaction is, somebody go ahead and turn me into the FCC. I’ll be honored to be fined. It’s just another government agency with its hand in my back pocket, so go right ahead.

So… wait… are conservatives for FCC censorship or not? Are they opposed to it in this case? Why this case? I’m confused…

Side note: oh, and anyone interested in the history of blow jobs should know that they were very, very popular before Clinton. I’m citing “Deep Throat” as my evidence.

Douschebag

Some people suck:

Last week [Rep. Tom Davis (R-Naturally)] announced that he intended to use the full weight of Congress to a oppose a new condo and townhouse development next to the Vienna Metro station. Why? According to Tom, it would not just cause added congestion to the road and rail system, but “Culturally, the people who would move into this project in Vienna are urban kind of people. A lot of them are single, and they would be happy living closer in.” And that’s the crux of the matter. See, what Tom really means is that a lot of those “culturally urban” people who would be “happy living closer in” are Democrats. And he certainly doesn’t want those kind of people living in his district. That’s right - Tom Davis has apparently told at least one local politician that his real reason for opposing the development is that “all it does is produce Democrats.” Yes folks, it has come to this - Republicans are now so intent on enforcing the red/blue divide that they’re even trying to stop Democrats from moving into their districts. Tell you what Tom, why don’t you just build a big wall all the way round DC so you can keep the “culturally urban” folks right where you want them?

First they came for the “culturally urban”… and I said nothing because I wasn’t culturally urban…

F-ed Up Shit

April 20th, 2005 by Steve

Hey, sometimes you have to break out of politics and comment on the really really bizarre things that go on in this world [DISCLAIMER: ILLEGAL FORMS OF SEX DESCRIBED; and by illegal, i mean “should be illegal”…

So what’s more insane: the girl having sex with dogs, the fact that she’s 12, the villagers essentially killing the dogs, the Christian minister saying its demons and that prayer and fasting is the only cure, the fact that AIDS is so widespread men prefer sex with goats cause its safer, or the apparent rampant beastiality as evidenced by the long list of offenders…

of course, for those who think “of course it’s in Afirca”… well… I don’t recommend it… but if you’ve got a really strong heart, mind, and stomach… google “beastiality”. yeh. gross. with a large american contingent.

you get my point.

I heard this story on WMMR, cause Dee Snider rocks. Go 93.3!!

New Pope

April 19th, 2005 by Steve

Well, we got ourselves a new pope. Benedict… XVI? Yeh, some number greater than 10. Way to be original.

What are my thoughts on him? Well, I don’t really know him, nor have I had any contact with him… so I just let others speak. Excerpt:

…Chills ran up and down my spine as I watched the protestors and then looked back at Ratzinger. Soon, anger swelled up inside me: This man was the embodiment of all that had oppressed me, all the horrors I had suffered as a child. It was because of his bigotry that my family, my church — everyone around me — had alienated me, and it was because of his bigotry that I was called “faggot” in school. Because of his bigotry I was treated like garbage. He was responsible for the hell I’d endured. He and his kind were the people who forced me to live in shame, in the closet. I became livid…

Suddenly, I jumped up on one of the marble platforms and, looking down, I addressed the entire congregation in the loudest voice I could. My voice rang out as if it were amplified. I pointed at Ratzinger and shouted: “He is no man of God!” The shocked faces of the assembled Catholics turned to the back of the room to look at me as I continued: “He is no man of God — he is the Devil!”

hm… that didn’t seem too positive… let’s see somewhere else! Excerpts from 2nd-to-last comment on page:

He wrote a letter of advice to U.S. bishops on denying communion to politicians who support abortion rights, which some observers viewed as a slam at Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kerry. He publicly cautioned Europe against admitting Turkey to the European Union and wrote a letter to bishops around the world justifying that stand on the grounds that the continent is essentially Christian in nature. In another letter to bishops worldwide, he decried a sort of feminism that makes women “adversaries” of men.

……………….

He once called homosexuality a tendency toward “intrinsic moral evil” and dismissed the uproar over priestly pedophilia in the United States as a “planned campaign” against the church.

……………….

While many theologians strive for a Catholic Church that is more open and in touch with the world around it, the new Pope’s mission has in the past seemed to entailing stamping out dissent, and curbing the “wild excesses” of this more tolerant era.

As prefect of doctrine, Pope Benedict wielded the tools of his office with steely efficiency. By influencing diocese budgets, bishops’ transfers and even excommunications, what an opponent called “symbolic violence”, the then Cardinal clamped down on the more radical contingent of the Church.

He has even claimed the prime position of the Church of Rome over other Christian Churches. Although he has apologised for this, he has never been so contrite about excluding liberation theologians, more progressive priests or those in favour of the ordination of women.

………………..

[Ratzinger wrote]
-Revelation in Christ is complete and cannot be complemented by other religions, even though the divine mystery in itself remains “inexhaustible;

-Sacred writings of other religions may have elements that “maintain a life-relationship with God, but only the Old and New Testaments are “inspired texts;

-Whatever the Holy Spirit brings about in other religions “serves as a preparation for the gospel and can only be understood in reference to Christ;

-Non-Catholic Christian churches have “defects, and Protestant communities are not “churches at all in the proper sense. To the extent non-Catholic communities
lead people to salvation, it is derived “from the very fullness of grace and truth entrusted to the Catholic church;

-Prayers and rituals of other religions do not have a “divine origin, and some “superstitions or other errors represent “an obstacle to salvation;

-Catholics must be committed to “announcing the necessity of conversion to Jesus Christ.

Hm, that isn’t too inspiring either… anywhere else to look? Hey, how about his fan club! Best comment on the site?

Is this a joke? This man knows less about God than a pork quantic theory. Use your common sense!

Hm. Well, I doubt he’ll reign for 20 years (hell, he’ll be lucky to make it to 5), so it won’t be that bad… I hope…..

Better and Better!

April 14th, 2005 by Steve

Ladies and Gentleman, say hello to your House Majority Leader!

Mr. DeLay: Not zealous. I blame Congress over the last 50 to 100 years for not standing up and taking its responsibility given to it by the Constitution. The reason the judiciary has been able to impose a separation of church and state that’s nowhere in the Constitution is that Congress didn’t stop them. The reason we had judicial review is because Congress didn’t stop them. The reason we had a right to privacy is because Congress didn’t stop them.

Apparently Mr. DeLay never passed elementary school, or he would have known that judicial review has been in existence SINCE THE 1800’s!!!!! Actually Mr. DeLay, the Separation of Church and State is implicitly defined in the Constitution; read some Madison and Jefferson; they wrote the bloody amendment!

And the right to privacy is a bad thing? I guess that means Mr. DeLay does want a police state. After all, “if you’re not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about” [/snark].

Right Denies Basic Constitutional Premises

April 12th, 2005 by Steve

The frothing-at-the-mouth Religious Reich has snapped. Utterly, completely lost it. For those who haven’t been paying attention, the Christian Far-Right has gone absolutely berserk since the Terri Shiavo case. Republican Representatives and Senators that violence against judges is “understandable” given the fact that they make “unpopular rulings” [we’ll just ignore the fact that the 2 rulings used as recent examples were, um, popular]. Spokespersons for these radical Christians have called for the removal of Judges, both through impeachment and violence. They have used Stalin as a positive example of how to do this. Other extreme Congressmen have introduced a bill which would make it illegal for judges to deny that God is the source of all law, liberty, and government. You think this is a fucking joke? I’m tired of putting up with the bullshit from Republican apologists; enough is enough. This is what you voted for. The destruction of the checks and balances and serparation of powers outlined in the Constitution; an independent third branch of government. They are going to take that away from this country, either through legislative fiat, or by force.

A party that enacts laws that would make being the minority party intolerable has no intention of ever relinquishing power.

Scary shit…..

Truth Hurts. A lot.

April 7th, 2005 by Steve

More via First-Draft. Looks like Richard Perle just got utterly destroyed by the House Armed Services Committee and Wesley Clark. It’s a beautiful thing to read, though the stories of the families of killed soldiers is heartbreaking, as always.

“Just an IOU”

April 7th, 2005 by Steve

Now, I’m no economist, but all this talk from the President about Treasury Bonds being “a piece of paper, an empty IOU” have concerned me greatly. I think First-Draft sums it up best… and they used pictures for the conservatives who don’t like lengthy explanations.
