Whaaaaa?

September 1st, 2004 by Steve

No link for this, but Pat Robertson said on MSNBC that the Democratic Party had gotten “more and more liberal” (that’s actually not true, but whatever…), especially since they had “taken in crazies like environmentalists and feminists.” [emphasis mine]. So let me get this straight. People who want to protect our environment and support women having wages, treatment, and rights equal to a man are crazy? Riiiiiiight…. Pat, I think I know why the Convention might not have invited you.

But that brings me to something I’ve been wanting to point out. Bush’s record on the environment sucks. And without even looking up anything, I could almost prove it. On a debate board, if I were to post a thread entitled “Bush Screws Environment,” I would get 2 typical responses from Bush Apologists; often both responses would come from the same person. First response: “He’s not screwing the environment; those old laws were out of date and we can protect the environment just fine with the new ones!” The second response? “We don’t need to protect the environment! Who cares? Global warming/deforestation/strip mining/etc aren’t serious problems anyway.” I’ve gotten similar responses from the same person, within the same paragraph before. This is known as double-think: thinking 2 contradictory things at once, able to discard one and hold the other up at will. If response 2 is correct, then response 1 must be incorrect, and vice versa. Having them come from the SAME group or person is downright hypocrisy. As it stands, there’s enough material out there on the Bush Environment Record. I’ll prolly post links later. I’m just too damn tired.
