Whaaaa???

September 22nd, 2004 by Steve

“At some point the Iraqis will get tired of getting killed.”

Donald Rumsfeld said that. Please think about it. Our Secretary of Defense said that. I mean, the Christians and Muslims got tired of getting killed by each oth-… o wait… no, bad example. The Israelis and Palestini-… wait, no… also bad… The Vietnamese got tired of us killing-… damn it… I just can’t seem to find an example…

Words escape me

September 21st, 2004 by Steve

I haven’t posted in a long time (forgot username was caps-sensitive, doh!), and I was gonna post something about Rumsfeld saying that though we were torturing people, it isn’t as bad as chopping off their heads, but I have something even more astoundingly stupid. From a WaPo subtitle about the extra cost of Bush’s hand-out to drug companies- excuse me, Medicare bill:

White House Estimates Show a $42 Billion Increase Over 10 Years, but Administration Officials Dispute That

Don’t quite get it? Let me help you.

White House Estimates Show a $42 Billion Increase Over 10 Years, but Administration Officials Dispute That

I want to see this on the Daily Show. In John Stewart’s “Whaaaaa?” section.

Alan Keyes tells the infertile to “go [cheney] yourselves”

September 4th, 2004 by Steve

“Marriage as an institution involves procreation.”

uh… this is one of the worst arguments against gay marriage… actually they all suck, for the most part. But since Republican Illinois (Illin-WAH?) senatorial candidate Alan Keyes brought it up, I’d like to easily refute this: According to this logic, infertile couples, couples who do not wish to have children, and elderly couples may not marry. Better start calling the states up and get amendments banning marriages that do not have children as the primary goal. Remember, conservatives think that “love has very little to do with marriage.”

just unbelievable

ok, pop quiz time! Time to complete the sentence using the multiple choice answers below. Please rank them from most-logical to most-illogical.

“Now, at the same time young Americans are dying in the sands of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan,

ok, now think about it. done thinking? here are your options.

a. we must engage in a real and meaningful debate regarding our realistic goals and direction in the conduct of this war.”

b. we must ask ourselves if we are heading the right direction in this war.”

c. our nation is beginning to ask if their government has lied to them and lose their trust in their leaders.”

d. our nation is being torn apart and made weaker because of the Democrats’ manic obsession to bring down our commander in chief.”

Still thinking? ok I’ll give you more time.

Need more time? Sure thing. Keep scrolling for the answers!

The correct order would be a, b, c, and d. Yeah, cheesy. A would be a very logical, as well as meaningful, sentence. B is solidly logical. C is logical, but has an obvious agenda to it (unless followed by some sort of “But I promise to America, your leaders are doing their best to protect you and our soldiers.”). D lacks any sort of critical thinking, or thinking period. Naturally, that is what conservative Southern Democrat Zell Miller said in support of President Bush Wednesday night. I think it speaks for itself that while men and women are dying in a war of choice (iraq) and in a war lacking resources because of the former war (afghanistan), Miller is blaming the people critical of the leader who got us into these regions for their deaths. Despicable.

Whaaaaa?

September 1st, 2004 by Steve

No link for this, but Pat Robertson said on MSNBC that the Democratic Party had gotten “more and more liberal” (that’s actually not true, but whatever…), especially since they had “taken in crazies like environmentalists and feminists.” [emphasis mine]. So let me get this straight. People who want to protect our environment and support women having wages, treatment, and rights equal to a man are crazy? Riiiiiiight…. Pat, I think I know why the Convention might not have invited you.

But that brings me to something I’ve been wanting to point out. Bush’s record on the environment sucks. And without even looking up anything, I could almost prove it. On a debate board, if I were to post a thread entitled “Bush Screws Environment,” I would get 2 typical responses from Bush Apologists; often both responses would come from the same person. First response: “He’s not screwing the environment; those old laws were out of date and we can protect the environment just fine with the new ones!” The second response? “We don’t need to protect the environment! Who cares? Global warming/deforestation/strip mining/etc aren’t serious problems anyway.” I’ve gotten similar responses from the same person, within the same paragraph before. This is known as double-think: thinking 2 contradictory things at once, able to discard one and hold the other up at will. If response 2 is correct, then response 1 must be incorrect, and vice versa. Having them come from the SAME group or person is downright hypocrisy. As it stands, there’s enough material out there on the Bush Environment Record. I’ll prolly post links later. I’m just too damn tired.
